MIDDLETOWNREMIX: HEAR MORE, SEE MORE

Call for Wesleyan Student DJ Submissions

 

Deadline:   Phase 1: March 31, 2013
                  Phase 2: April 26, 2013

Eligibility:  Wesleyan undergraduate and graduate students

Overview:

The Center for the Arts (CFA) at Wesleyan University is hosting a DJ competition for Wesleyan students. The competition is part of MiddletownRemix, a collaborative, place-based sound project that enables participants to develop and express the acoustic identity of Middletown, and to explore and experience the soundscapes of the city. Learn more about MiddletownRemix at middletownremix.org. The competition will have two phases.

Phase 1: Competition

Students submit a 2-3 minute remix that incorporates sounds from the MiddletownRemix project by 11:59pm on March 31, 2013. Eligible remixes will then be available for a public vote between April 1 - 12, 2013 through middletownremix.org. The four remixes that receive the most votes will move on to Phase 2.

Criteria: Only one submission will be allowed per student. Remixes can incorporate music from other sources, but must include at least five sounds from the MiddletownRemix project (sounds can be found at: http://urbanremix.gatech.edu/content/middletown).

Submission Format:

By 11:59pm on March 31, 2013 applicants must:

Email the submission in MP3 format to link to Aletta Brady, Music and Public Life Intern, at cbrady@welseyan.edu. Submissions must include the applicant’s full name, class year, title of remix and the names of the MiddletownRemix sounds used. Subject title should read “MiddletownRemix Student Competition.” 

Phase 2: Commissions

The applicants with the four remixes that receive the most votes will be commissioned by the CFA to create a 15 minute remix that incorporates sounds from the MiddletownRemix project. Remixes will be completed by April 30, 2013 at which time the student will receive $200 each as a commissioning fee. The students will play these commissions during the MiddletownRemix festival on May 11, 2013.
